The Startup Genome: How can it help MBA Entrepreneurs?
By QS Contributor
Updated UpdatedAre you a current or potential MBA entrepreneur? The Startup Genome can help you get information on the startup scene in your current city or the cities for MBA programs you're considering.
The goal of the Startup Genome is to be a one-stop resource for all entrepreneurs, regardless of the what stage of the entrepreneurial lifecycle their startup is in. Right now, the Startup Genome is an online tool that maps the startup scene in the following 6 cities:
The Startup Genome currently provides information on the accelerators and different types of startup investors located in the six cities listed above. In the future, they plan to add university ecosystems, as well as information about founders and any other community resources available to entrepreneurs. This information is added by curators around the world and anyone can apply to be a Startup Genome Curator.
How can the Startup Genome Project help you as a current or potential MBA entrepreneur? It can help you read the entreprenneurial pulse of your current city. If you are considering an MBA program in another city, such as Boston, it can help you see what resources are available to startup founders in that city. A quick glance at the startup genome page for Boston tells you that there are two startup accelerators in that city, BetaSpring and TechStars.
The Startup Genome also allows you learn more about the accelerators and investors for a particular city. If you are creating a startup in Boston and want information about TechStars, for example, you can get the names of TechStars founders, read their biographies, and find links to their social networking profiles.
Don't see your city listed on the front page? A search can get you information on companies and investors. A search "London" for example shows page results for companies and investors in London, as well as co-working spaces. The Startup Genome is currently in beta, which means that the site is still in development. Since the Startup Genome has big plans and expert curators, however, it looks like the site will continue to grow.
